Description

Optical Flow: history, state of the art and ongoing work

The concept of optical flow, seen as a tool for motion detection and segmentation, has been of central importance in computer vision. Early algorithms are based on variational formulations, while modern approaches involve the exploitation of deep neural networks. Although its definition can be deemed rather slippery, it is an interesting playground for the study of elementary unsupervised learning problems in the realm of computer vision. I will present different methodologies and introduce an ongoing experience which focuses on online learning in a continual setup.
